About the Maloof Entertainment Companies
The Maloof Entertainment Companies ("MEC") encompass film, television, music and other related areas. Leveraging the assets of the Maloof family, whose business portfolio spans banking, real estate, hospitality, gaming and sports, MEC's synergistic vision is twofold. First, to have each MEC division bring value to the others through its relationships; and second, to develop projects that, assuming its makes sense creatively to do so, can involve as many of the MEC divisions as possible. This vision is expedited through the hands-on leadership of the Maloof family.
MEC’s record label, Maloof Music, already has two artists under its joint venture with Interscope Records, with its first album, from Compton-based rapper Spit Fiya, to be released in 2007. Alternative demo artist Narwhal is currently on tour and hopes to release an album sometime in the next year.
MEC’s film group, Maloof Motion Pictures, has amassed a slate of projects including Dimension's FEAST (produced in conjunction with Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Wes Craven) which was released theatrically in September of 2006 and was named a "Must-See" film for Fall by Entertainment Weekly; THE BIG BIAZARRO, an drama based on the Leonard Wise novel to star Pierce Brosnan; and THE RUCKER, based on the historic street basketball tournament in Harlem with Penny Marshall attached to produce.
MEC’s television division, Maloof TV, recently completed production on a pilot for an HBO comedy series with George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh's Section Eight focusing on a fictional NBA team. The division also just finished shooting 10 episodes of BULLRUN (a primetime reality series set to air in early 2007 on Spike TV) and has several other projects in active development.
Beyond the creation of entertainment content, MEC’s reach extends to an impressive array of entertainment facilities at Arco Arena in Sacramento, The Palms Hotel and Casino and its newly launched Studio at the Palms in Las Vegas. Arco Arena, which hosts nearly 200 events and two million spectators annually, has featured such performers as Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Prince, Garth Brooks and U2. The Palms has itself hosted a variety of musical events, while the recording assets of Studio at the Palms allows artists to lay down tracks in that state-of-the-art environment or record live from the property’s adjacent concert venue. The Palms has further distinguished itself as the hub of "Hollywood North," hosting star-studded parties in the indulgent spirit of Las Vegas. Moreover, the resort has recently emerged as a world film premiere destination, recently welcoming the likes of Jennifer Garner, Adam Sandler, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon to the red carpet.
